What I Wish I Knew

Before Launching a Skincare & Wellbeing Brand

Katarzyna Wisniewska
tarting Luna Selene was more than just launching a skincare brand—it was a journey of self-discovery, resilience, and creating something truly meaningful. When we set out to build a business that blended holistic skincare, self-care rituals, and mindful beauty, we had no idea just how much we would learn along the way. From navigating the highly competitive beauty industry to embracing the power of storytelling and authenticity, every challenge has shaped our brand into what it is today.

If you had told me years ago that I’d be co-founding a skincare and wellbeing brand, I’m not sure I would have believed you. I’ve always been drawn to beauty and design, but turning that passion into a business? That felt like something other people did. But here I am, co-founder of Luna Selene, a brand rooted in mindful self-care, holistic wellness, and the belief that beauty is more than just skin deep.

Building this brand has been one of the most rewarding (and challenging) experiences of my life. Along the way, I’ve learned more than I ever could have imagined—about skincare, business, and, most importantly, myself. If I could go back and give my past self a few words of wisdom, here’s what I’d say.

1. Your Vision is Everything (But It Will Evolve, and That’s Okay)

When we started Luna Selene, we had a strong vision: to create skincare and wellbeing products that support not just the skin, but the soul. That vision is still at our core, but it has shifted, expanded, and refined itself in ways I never expected. The truth is, no matter how much planning you do, your brand will evolve as you grow. The key is to stay open to change while remaining true to your deeper purpose.

2. The Beauty Industry is No Joke

There’s a reason so many brands never make it past the first year. The beauty and wellness industry is saturated, and standing out requires more than just a great product. It takes relentless dedication, authenticity, and an insane amount of behind-the-scenes work that no one ever tells you about. Creating high-quality, ethical products is just the beginning—you have to understand marketing, branding, customer psychology, regulations, and so much more.

3. Skincare is Personal—And So is Business

One of the most beautiful things about skincare is that it’s deeply personal. People don’t just buy a cleanser or serum; they invest in self-care, confidence, and rituals that make them feel good. That’s why it’s so important to create products with intention and to build a brand that genuinely connects with people on an emotional level.

The same goes for running a business. It’s personal. There’s no way around it. You will pour your heart, soul, and sleepless nights into it. Some days will be exhilarating, others will have you questioning everything. But if you truly believe in what you’re creating, that passion will always bring you back to center.

4. You Will Doubt Yourself (And That’s Okay)

Imposter syndrome? Oh, it’s real. There have been so many moments where I’ve thought, “Who am I to do this?” But here’s what I’ve learned: everyone experiences self-doubt, even the most successful entrepreneurs. The trick is to not let fear make your decisions for you. Trust yourself. Trust your ideas. And trust that you are capable of learning as you go.

5. Success Takes Time (And Patience is a Superpower)

There’s this idea that if you launch a great product with a beautiful brand, success will follow immediately. I wish it worked that way. The reality is that building a business takes time, persistence, and so much patience. There will be slow months, unexpected obstacles, and moments where you wonder if you’re on the right path. But as long as you keep showing up, learning, and adjusting, progress will happen.

6. Community is Everything

If there’s one thing that has kept us going, it’s the incredible people who believe in what we’re creating. Building a brand isn’t just about selling products; it’s about creating a community of like-minded souls who share your vision. The more we connect with our customers and listen to their stories, the more we realize that Luna Selene is bigger than just skincare—it’s about self-care, healing, and empowerment.

7. There’s No “Perfect” Time to Start

I spent years dreaming of starting something of my own, but there was always an excuse—the timing wasn’t right, I didn’t have all the answers, I wasn’t ready. If I could go back, I’d tell myself: There will never be a perfect time. You will never feel fully ready. Do it anyway.

Final Thoughts

Launching Luna Selene has been one of the most challenging and fulfilling experiences of my life. I’ve learned more about resilience, creativity, and self-trust than I ever thought possible. If you’re thinking about starting your own brand—whether in skincare, wellness, or anything else—know this: you are more capable than you think.

There will be hard days, but there will also be moments of magic—the first time someone tells you how much they love your product, the first order from a stranger, the first time you realize you’ve created something meaningful.

And that? That makes it all worth it.
